2nd Grade Christmas Concert

So, another concert in the books. Try not to laugh too hard when you watch the first video. He had light shining right in his eyes and he looks like he is having a seizure or something. I was surprised he wasn't in the back row. It definitely did NOT seem to be arranged by height when in the past 2 years when it was a different music teacher.

There were some people with fat heads in the way of my taping. Ugh. So I had to be this close or it would block out half the kids. He is still blinking a lot, but not quite as dramatic as the 1st song.




And then in this last one you can't even see him since they combined 2nd & 3rd grades, so I guess you can just listen to it if you want or not....Whatevs.....

In a couple of these, there were people who apparently just had to walk in front of me recording to go to the bathroom during the middle of a song and then walk in front of me in another song to come back.

Henry is in the very top left.








That 3rd song seems to not be uploading correctly.....and I deleted it off my phone to get the space back, so it may or may not be there.

A belated birthday card and a Christmas card arrived in the mail for Henry (birthday) and both of the kids (Christmas).

So, here is 4 more. Then below there are 2 more I took on my phone. I didn't get one song taped (Jingle Bells), so maybe if you ask nice he will sing it for you. He did a wonderful job and I could actually hear him in some of the songs and he did the actions and knew all the words.

Opening Christmas Presents

 Here is Henry on the Saturday before Christmas, opening up the grain auger present that grandma & grandpa M. bought for his.

 The next 3 pictures are from Christmas Eve when we open family presents. Here is is opening the cape and masks that mommy made for him.

 Gotta love that he is wearing his Easter shirt on Christmas eve. LOL!

 Here he is wearing the Viking scarf and mittens that mommy made him. He was not thrilled to have to model them.

 Darn, I didn't realize this wasn't in focus. This is of Henry looking in his stocking for his presents from Santa.

And finally (but not lastly) the kids are opening the big presents from Santa. Henry got 3 pieces of speciality track to add to his train sets (A magic tunnel, a bridge, and a big curvy S piece.)

Making Christmas Presents & Learning Style

Here Henry is painting a wooden toy he plans to give to his friend Ben for Christmas. Now that Henry is old enough to do these kinds of projects on his own, I have been encouraging the kids that it is the thought that counts and that people like homemade gifts. He has made his sister a present (in addition to buying one too) and he painting this wooden dinosaur for his friend. We plan to make some candy cane play dough next week for another one of his friends.

I was very impressed with how well he did on this project. He wanted to do a good job and was very thorough. He made sure to paint all of the wood so that there was no wood showing through. I was not expecting that from him. Whenever I ask him to color something he will scribble in something and say he is done and will only color more if I tell him he has to use a certain number of colors in his picture and then does quick scribbles of that many colors.

I am learning his "working" style and he really seems to be a kid that likes to figure things out (like puzzles - he LOVES those) and likes projects with steps. He does not care for coloring but if I give him a project where he has to glue things and follow steps he is all over that. He also loves to do worksheets. I have a variety of booklets and he seems to like them all.

He does know how to spell his name now and knows my phone #. Although, he couldn't learn it the way I taught Isabel so I had to figure out a new way to get him to learn which involved using gross motor skills.

He has down most of his letters, in fact for some reason "D" seems to be the only letter that he gets stuck on. He knows the rest when I point at them randomly. Now to get him to know them phonetically.

He also surprised me by counting to 25 from rote. I was not expecting him to do that. He does get confused about 15 and says "fiveteen" but I think he will get that figured out soon. He does seem to know most of those numbers when I point at them randomly too.

The other thing he can tell you is pretty much what any type of automobile is. He just loves anything with wheels and every time we drive anywhere he will tell me everything he sees. I never realized how many different types of vehicles we see on a 6 mile rides.

Santa at Harley-Davidson

 This was an impromtu Santa visit. I had read on teh Frbo HD status update that Santa was there, so we decided to go since we had been happy with their Halloween arrangements the past couple years.

This was at the outlet mall on Friday. The kids were very excited to see Santa already this season PLUS reindeer! The each even got a hardcover book too!

Cocoa with Santa & Mrs. Claus at the Art Center

 You have seen several of these on sister's blog, so I will try to tell you something new on this one.

Henry is really not so fond of strangers these days, especially men. I was just happy that he did not scream or cry when he was on Santa's lap. This was the best picture we could get of them with Santa.

Sister had to tell Santa what Henry wanted because he was scared and wouldn't say anything. But when Santa showed him his special pocket watch (it had people on a horse drawn sleigh in the snow being pulled around in a circle to music) then Henry started to warm up to him.

Henry did enjoy the cookies they had there. I think they each had three. Oye!

Like I said, Henry is scared of strangers right now. So, he was unhappy about being so close to Mrs. Claus. I think next year it will all make sense to him that they bring him presents and he will like them a whole lot more.

I have to say, I enjoyed this Santa event. I liked that there was a story (which Henry & I did go sit down for), and that Mrs. Claus was playing Christmas carols on the piano and there was hot cocoa & lots of cookies, and Santa took his time with the kids. Even though we waited a long time to visit with Santa because we waited until the line was almost done before we got in it because we didn't want to stand there for so long with Henry, plus the Art Center is so pretty. I would go back to this one again.

Decorating Sugar Cookies

Instead of making a bunch of cookies all at once, we just spend all December making them and eating them. We might not get to all varieties, but we get to what we get.

This was from last weekend. Sister helped me cut out sugar cookies and then we all decorated them, and ate them all of course.

Next up for cookies was Nutella Blossoms rolled in powdered  sugar (so they were like Peanut Butter Blossoms meet Snow on the Mountain Cookies).

Currently, chilling in the fridge is gingerbread cutout dough that we will make later today. I am plan to get to spritz cookies next weekend because I have volunteered to contribute those for the cookie exchange I arranaged with a bunch of other moms. So, we will soon have many more varitities to eat.

And I do need to make some candy, divinity and cashew brittle for sure! Probably not fudge this year since one of the moms is contributing that for the exchange.

Spending Xmas Money

Henry chose a 10-pack of Hot Wheels as something he wanted to spend some of his money from Christmas from Grandma & Grandpa S. He loves playing with cars/truck/tractors/anything with wheels. The whole ride home from the store he kept studying the box and look at the cars. He was very excited when we got home and he could finally open it and play with them.

The weekend after Christmas we celebrate it with mommy's family. Henry was really too much on the go and didn't care too much about opening presents. I was lucky to get him interested in this first present. I think I need to set my camera to action shot all the time with this boy.
